Eat This Workshop is a 90-minute interactive cooking class that explores how the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Culinary Literacy Center is reaching special populations and advancing the library as a diverse, inclusive, and restorative space. Participants will use a mobile kitchen kit to prepare a meal of Chana Masala step by step while learning about the Culinary Literacy Center’s programs that serve refugees, adults with developmental disabilities, veterans, and people with visual impairments. After cooking and learning, we’ll all eat the meal we have prepared together. The Culinary Literacy Center is the first program of its kind in any library in the United States. Housed in a commercial-grade kitchen, we advance literacy, guide learning, and inspire curiosity through fun and educational cooking classes. Culinary Literacy is for everyone—advancing multiple literacies to people of all ages and abilities.
