Each of us experiences buildings differently, depending on our own cultural, social, economic, and physical circumstances. Religion, gender, age, mental health and reliance on senses also play a role in how we each experience the built environment. Yet many buildings are designed to accommodate only a narrow slice of the human population. Through a series of hands-on activities and interactions with fellow workshop attendees, this workshop creates awareness about the built environment’s role in inclusion and demonstrates how process, flexibility, and choice can be powerful tools in the quest for inclusive buildings.
