In many places role and contribution of public libraries to the community well-being is often unrecognized. I have heard not once, when representative of authorities and a member of the society questioned the future of public library, because there is so much easyier to access information online. I wonder, why it is so and what could be the best strategies to change the situation?
Public libraries have two main roles throughout history: information and reference role and social role. Maybe is up to the librarians to work more in spreading public awareness on the social role of libraries in contemporary society?
