Description

In this interactive, hands-on session, participants are introduced to the fundamentals of “Design Thinking.” This approach, also known as human-centered deign, is a design-based methodology used to design new product, services, spaces, brands etc. This session will provide practical hands on tools for understanding user needs, ideation, concept development, prototyping, and eliciting feedback. The workshop will start with a short overview on design thinking and move into fun innovative exercises that focus on prototyping. Participants will gain insight into the design process and leave with practical tools they can begin using right away at home.

Approach

The session will start with an overview of the key principles of Design Thinking.  We will then focus on one principal, prototyping. We will then introduce prototyping tools such as bodystorming, scenario development and role playing.  Participants will then form small groups and apply that thinking to a design challenge in service, designing and prototyping a solution.

Interactive enrichment programs for youth (literacy, STEM) that librarians can do. Often librarians are not trained on development milestones of children, teaching methods, so they have to teach themselves. What materials, games, activities are at hand that we can use to develop truly educational programs - but fun - for older kids (NOT story time). I've had experience doing these because I've been fortunate to work with teachers-turned-librarian, but we still basically started from scratch…
