This session is organized by Public Library of Utrecht (www.bibliotheekutrecht.nl) and medialab SETUP (www.setup.nl).
The Library pursues social participation of all citizens, by providing access to knowledge and culture. When it comes to new technologies, the library applies the method of ‘critical making’, combining hands-on skills with creative expression and critical reflection. In doing so, participants learn to understand how technology shapes society, and how to take control.
SETUP is a non-profit organization that explores digital culture, new technology and ethics. Combining academic background with artistic practice, SETUP strives to strengthen a more enriched, critical stance towards emerging technologies.
The Library and SETUP frequently work together on technological themes.
