Description

“The Digital Publishing Toolkit for Libraries and Beyond” is a 1.5 hour-long hands-on workshop intended to transfer basic editorial and publishing skills to librarians and everyone else interested in digital publishing and the circulation of knowledge. This workshop is based on two basic assumptions: the first one is that digital literacy is best learned and enjoyed as a creator; the second one is that libraries must be actively engaged in the creation of a diverse, open, and locally responsible, internet that reflects and promotes the values of the community it serves. Having basic editing and publishing skills can help librarians turn their libraries into knowledge centers where the community can create and share information online or offline. It can also work as strategy to revitalize and collect collections with local-interest topics while showcasing the

work of local talent. Beyond the library, basic editing and publishing skills can help communicate knowledge and information in more engaging and effective ways.

Did you know that Chinese, Spanish, Arabic and Portuguese speaking internet users make up 37.5% of the total online population, but only 11% of the Web is in their language. 52% of the content of the internet is written in English*.

....which is why helping you community share their stories online in  a meaningful way is a great way to strengthen local circulation of knowledge and information.
