Fragmented youth learning experiences have become the driver for building new, collaborative models of more robust learning environments. Learn about how the global Hive movement is working across disciplines to strengthen communities and foster engaging and relevant opportunities for youth. Participate in an interactive session with Chicago teens to illustrate how Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre has been working with youth and Chicago Hive members to explore topics of choice, identity and intolerance in order to make positive change in their communities.

Hallie Gordon, Artistic and Educational Director of Steppenwolf for Young Adults, has created and facilitated many educational programs. Along with selecting the young adult productions each season she has created the Young Adult Council, high school students who collectively help to create innovative programming for their peers. Hallie is the Founder and Co-Creator of Now Is The Time a city-wide initiative inspiring young people to make positive change in their communities and stop youth violence and intolerance. She has directed staged readings for The Goodman Theatre, Timeline Theatre, Chicago Dramatists and Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Hallie is the recipient of The Helen Coburn Meier & Tim Meier Achievement Award. Hallie is an Advisory Committee member to The Hive Chicago.
Mozilla – Webmaker Community Team (US)
Chris Lawrence is the Senior Director of Mozilla’s Webmaker Community Team. Through this work Chris helps guide the Hive Learning Network project helping to spread connected learning, web literacy through the exploration of digital skills for youth and educators. He is a graduate of Bank Street College’s Museum Education program and previously worked at the New York Hall of Science.
