Data is pretty much at the heart of all libraries, but besides creating, handling and storing them, we could also play an important role in engaging the public in understanding, analyzing and even playing with them. In the age of “big data” with rapidly growing production and capitalization of data and the speedy development of intelligent algorithms and neural networks it seems crucial to ensure understanding and data-skills in our local communities. We need to facilitate both a general debate about the potential benefits and concerns, but also provide the knowledge citizens need to proactively handle huge amounts of data in their everyday as well as professional lives.

In this interactive session, we will facilitate the debate by letting participants get a hand-on experience for themselves analyzing, framing and telling stories with data.

Come join us for a debate on this subject – what are the proper tools to use, how do we facilitate these kinds of complex processes? How do we raise awareness?

Please bring your own Laptop to the Session.

The Data Democracy project is done by Aarhus Public Libraries with funding from The Agency for Culture and Palaces.
