DESCRIPTION

This session asks how libraries can support youth during times of political and social crises. We will look at ways that libraries can focus on youth from less privileged backgrounds through community engagement, partnerships, and outreach, including LGBTQ youth, migrants and refugees, and families impacted by the prison system."

As we explore libraries and social justice and provide examples from our work in the public libraries of Chicago and New York in the United States, we will engage participants to think and strategize about how they can make their libraries spaces that empower and welcome youth from all backgrounds.

Co-organizers:

Kristyn Caragher, Teen Librarian, Chicago, USA

Katrina Ortega, Senior Young Adult Librarian, The New York Public Library, USA

Maggie Craig, Senior Children's Librarian, The New York Public Library, USA
