DESCRIPTION

It is thought that the origin of the verb ”hug” comes from the Old Norse wordhugga, which means to comfort, or from the German word hegen, which means to foster or cherish. We like to think that a Library Hug can do all of these things; comfort, foster, and cherish. A hug is a temporary state of being. You share in the warm embrace of another for a fleeting moment, but the connection is everlasting. Hugs connect, creating kind humans.  A Library Hug creates a temporary safe space to transform the helplessness we feel in a world that often seems to be spiraling out of control.  Our session will begin by exploring the physicality of words that are inspired by the tumultuous world we live in. From this we will build Library Hugs and transport them into the community; documenting through photos, moments, and quotes.  By capturing our temporary space, we can bask in the joy, sharing its connection with those who were not part of the moment. Huggers and huggees will leave the warm embrace of the Library Hug with a deep understanding that we’re all on the same team: team human. Huggees will see the joy and beauty that can be pulled out from even the most horrific circumstances, and our huggers will see how they can have a direct impact even through the smallest actions.
