- The Future Begins at the Library – Empowering Citizens to Shape Tomorrow
Session
How do you imagine your community—or the world—in 2040 or 2050? Will it be better, worse, or much the same? What about the climate, health, peace, wealth, or local parks and schools? What shapes your views—and are you ready for different futures?
Futures literacy is the skill of thinking in this way—and teaching others to do the same. In this practical session, you’ll be introduced to two exciting toolkits created for public libraries: Come Rain or Shine (UK) and Together for the Future (DK).
You’ll learn how to use workshop methods like trend-scanning and scenario-building, and explore how literature and stories can drive foresight and inspire action. You’ll leave with the tools and ideas to build futures literacy in your own library and community after Next Library 2025.
