In 2021, Silkeborg Libraries launched the Outdoor Library to strengthen children’s and families’ connection to nature. Through hands-on activities and creative tools, we help make outdoor exploration easy and engaging.

Our initiatives include:

• Nature backpacks filled with equipment, books, and activities

• Nature scavenger hunts

• Creative workshops with natural materials

• A children’s book on endangered Danish wildlife, created with artists and biologists

• Collaborations with local environmental organizations

• A new Nature Activity Book project

This vision also shapes our children’s library, where tactile, nature-inspired designs have led to a marked rise in visitors and loans.
