The learning loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to impact children from our most vulnerable communities for years to come. Libraries are positioned to help address these needs but must reinvent their critical role in supporting out of school time learning for children and families. By integrating STEM, literacy, and play, libraries can meet the needs of diverse learners, increase access to high quality learning opportunities, and broaden participation.

This session will explore strategies at the core of a transformative summer learning project in Chicago and how this work continues to expand in library systems across the United States. This session will introduce effective methods of change management and hands-on activities that playfully engage all learners to think like scientists and engineers.
